Change of plans? No worries! We offer a range of options for exchange if you find you can no longer attend your performance on your chosen date.
Tickets can be exchanged to another date of the same production 24 hours prior to the scheduled performance date.
Subscribers can also exchange tickets in their package to another production, subject to availability (conditions apply). Exchanges for Season 2024 will be available from 30 November 2023.
Exchange fees are waived for Full Season Subscribers, however all other ticket exchanges attract a per-ticket exchange fee.
We also provide a Free Up Seats service, allowing you to return your seats for sale to someone else.

New to online exchanges?
Exchanging online is easy! Make sure you have each ticket you want to exchange handy and follow the steps below:
- Click the exchange button below
- Log in to your My MTC account, or reset your password if required
- Enter the verification code and ticket number for each ticket you want to exchange
- Once all the tickets you have wish to exchange have been entered, follow the prompts to select your new performance and seats
- Click Confirm Purchase to complete your exchange and if required, make payment

Tickets can also be exchanged in person or via postal mail (see below for details).
Fees
The following fees apply to ticket exchanges:
- Full Season Subscriber tickets: free!
- All other Subscription tickets including additional tickets: $5 per ticket
- Non-Subscription tickets: $18 per ticket
No fees apply to exchanges due to cancelled performances.

How can I exchange my tickets?
The easiest way to exchange your tickets is online via your My MTC account. For Season 2024, tickets can be exchanged starting from Thursday 30 November.
To exchange in person, bring your tickets to our Southbank Theatre Box Office.
To exchange by mail, send your tickets together with details of your preferred new performance and the appropriate exchange fee to:

Can I exchange for a different date?
When exchanging into a different performance date of the same production, tickets must be exchanged at least 24 hours prior to the performance date indicated on the original ticket.
Can I exchange for a different production?
Subscribers can exchange into another production within the same season, provided the exchange is into a production that is not already booked within the subscription package, and the exchange occurs at least one week before the first preview of the originally booked production.
The cut-off dates for exchanges for Season 2023 are:
- My Sister Jill: Saturday 16 September
- Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill: Thursday 12 October
- A Very Jewish Christmas Carol: Tuesday 7 November
The cut-off dates for exchanges for Season 2024 are:
- Seventeen: Monday 8 January
- Meet Me at Dawn: Saturday 3 February
- 37: Saturday 24 February
- The Almighty Sometimes: Monday 8 April
- Julia: Friday 24 May
- A Streetcar Named Desire: Tuesday 2 July
- English: Monday 22 July

Can I exchange tickets not purchased as part of a subscription?
Yes. Non-subscription tickets can be exchanged into another performance of the same production for $18 per ticket, up to 24 hours prior to the original performance date.
Full Season Subscribers pay no fees when exchanging their subscription tickets, and all other subscription tickets pay $5 per ticket. Click here to learn more about the benefits of becoming a Subscriber.
Website says my ticket is not valid for exchange.
Online exchanges are only available for productions within the same annual Season.
Tickets must be exchanged at least 24 hours before the performance start time. If there is less than 24 hours before your scheduled performance, you can Free Up Seat to allow others to enjoy the performance if you cannot attend.
What happens to my ticket when I free up my seat?
When you Free Up Seats, you allow us to offer those seats to other theatre lovers who may not have otherwise been able to access the performance. By releasing your tickets to us for resale, you are helping us to fund vital programs including discounted and free tickets for students.
Please note that Free Up Seats does not result in a refund or tax-deductible donation.
