MTC has 3 remaining paid Assistant Director positions available in 2020 for emerging or mid-career directors.

These positions were created to enable the successful applicant to learn about the process of developing shows for large-scale companies from senior theatre directors.  During each project the Assistant Director will shadow the director in rehearsal, attend weekly production meetings and observe the bump in of the production into the theatre through to Opening Night. Depending on the production’s needs, the Assistant Director may be required to attend performances during the season for show maintenance purposes or transfer the production to additional venues.

Preference will be given to those who have not had previous paid directorial experience at MTC.

These positions are for Melbourne based directors only.

  • A 1 page statement which includes information on why you would like to work on this production, why a company like MTC is of interest and what you hope to gain from the process. In this statement, please address how your prior directorial experience relates to the specific skills required for the production of interest.
