NEXT STAGE Writers-in-Residence

With thanks to the donors, foundations and organisations who fund Melbourne Theatre Company’s NEXT STAGE Writer’s Program, MTC is pleased to offer two writer-in-residence opportunities beginning in 2020.

These coveted positions are suitable for writers who have a background in playwriting and would benefit from experience within a major theatre company to learn about its operations – including the programming to production decision-making process – as well as gaining insight into writing for the mainstage.

Launched in 2017 and made possible by the philanthropic support of MTC’s Playwrights Giving Circle, NEXT STAGE has supported 25 writers to date through commissions and residencies.

MTC’s NEXT STAGE Writer-in-Residence positions are for a minimum 12 month period.

Applications close Tuesday 9 June at 5pm.

Applications are now open, APPLY HERE.

Please note: Due to the restrictions brought on by COVID-19 and their potential to continue into the future, some aspects of the residency may be delivered online or in an altered format to ensure the health and safety of all participants and MTC staff.
