MTC and Live Performance Australia
MTC is an Australian Organisation and the prices displayed on this website, and in all publications – both online and print – are in Australian Dollars (AUD) only.
Tickets sold or issued by MTC are subject to the Live Performance Australia (LPA) Ticketing Code of Practice and to MTC Terms and Conditions of sale. Any person purchasing a ticket or attending an event agrees to abide by these terms and conditions.
LPA Ticketing Code of Practice (2016) is a voluntary industry code setting out industry best practice standards of consumer protection for the ticketing of live entertainment events in Australia. Information on the Code and copies of it are freely available via the web or at the time of booking from the Southbank Theatre Box Office.
Children at Performances
MTC is committed to providing an environment where all audience members, including babes in arms and young children, can be accommodated in a way which ensures every person in the theatre can have an enjoyable experience free of distraction or interruption from other audience members.
For the majority of Melbourne Theatre Company productions and productions presented by Other Companies at Southbank Theatre, children who have not yet turned two years old may be admitted into an event at no cost and without a ticket. In these cases, children will not be allocated a seat and must be seated on the lap of a parent or guardian for the duration of the event.
Young children who are not babes in arms and/or are over 2 years old are required to have their own seat and have a paid ticket (youth price).
Some events do require children under the age of 2 to be admitted with a ticket – particularly for performances programmed specifically for this age group, please check the production page or enquire with our team when booking.
Unless a show is specifically a designated children’s performance, most MTCproductions are considered unsuitable for young children. MTC provides a detailed parent’s guide to best inform parents about content and suitability of each production for children, and it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure the production is appropriate for the minor/s attending in their care.
Melbourne Theatre Company accepts Companion Cards for all MTC productions and all events presented at Southbank Theatre. Present your Companion Card when you are booking your ticket and you will be required to pay only for your own ticket, a second ticket will be issued for your companion at no charge. Tickets will be held at the Southbank Theatre Box Office and can be collected on presentation of the Companion Card and any other relevant ID
Concessions must be Australian Issued and valid at the time of booking. Full or partial refunds are not available if you become eligible for a concession after you have booked. Proof of concession must be provided at the time of booking. Under 30s (29 years and under) must provide documentation indicating proof of age, such as a driver’s license. Full-time students must provide proof of current full-time enrollment. Proof of concession may be required to be provided to gain access to the venue or event if being admitted on a concession ticket. Failure to provide valid proof will result in an upgrade fee on that ticket.
Conditions of Entry
The use of photographic or recording equipment, including mobile phones, is prohibited. Mobile devices must be turned off before entry into the venue’s auditorium.
Food and beverages may not be consumed in the auditorium unless otherwise advised.
It is a condition of entry that a search of persons or possessions may be required at the time of entry to the Venue.
MTC reserves the right to refuse admission or evict a ticket holder in accordance with the LPA Ticketing Code of Practice or if they compromise the health, safety or welfare of MTC staff with aggressive or abusive behaviour.
Content warnings (such as adult themes and coarse language) have been noted with the play summaries in the MTC Performance Diary within the annual season brochure where appropriate and updates are available on the play pages and parents section of the MTC website. Stage cigarettes do not contain tobacco. This information is most up-to-date one week prior to the first Preview of a production. A warning sign will also be placed in the theatre foyer during the production. For detailed information about each production please see our production content guide.
Exchanges and Refunds
MTC Subscribers are entitled to exchange tickets within their subscription package
For a different performance date of the same production
Subscribers can exchange their tickets provided the tickets are received by MTC at least 48 hours prior to the performance date indicated on the ticket.
For a different production
Subscribers may exchange into another mainstage production of the same season, provided the exchange is not for a production that is already booked within the subscription package, and that the exchange occurs at least one week before the first preview of the originally booked production.
Exchange fees apply to most subscriber exchanges. An upgrade supplement will be charged if exchanging to a higher priced performance. Any difference in ticket price will not be refunded. For more information, visit the Ticket Exchanges page.
Exchanges can be made from ticket on sale dates, either online (for Sumner productions only), in person at the Southbank Theatre Box Office, or by mail (please allow 5 working days for mail exchanges).
Single tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase except, as outlined in the LPA Ticketing Code of Practice, if an event is cancelled, rescheduled or significantly relocated.
MTC Gift Vouchers can be purchased online or via the MTC Box Office. Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, and can be used to purchase single tickets or to make part payment on an MTC subscription. Please note that vouchers are not transferable or refundable for cash. In the event that a voucher has been used for a performance which is later cancelled, the value of the ticket plus any booking fees will be refunded in the form of a new gift voucher, not in cash or any other currency.
The Head Booker is the first person listed on the booking form (and on the topmost form when multiple forms are submitted together). Please note that the Head Booker is the point of contact for MTC in case of seating reallocation or other contingencies. The Head Booker is responsible for giving correct contact and payment information at the time of booking for all other attendees and will be required to assist with further documentation to verify any incorrect information.
The performance will commence promptly at the advertised time. MTC reserves the right to admit latecomers only when/if there is a suitable break in the performance, and to relocate seating. Management reserves the right to refuse admission; this policy is to prevent disruption to other patrons and the performance.
Lost ticket passes must be collected in-person from the performance venue in the hour prior to the relevant performance. Requests for lost ticket passes must be made in person and cannot be requested or prepared earlier than one hour prior to the performance. Please note lost ticket vouchers cannot be exchanged. Abercrombie & Kent Opening Nights
Exclusive to MTC Donors donating over $1,000, a limited number of Abercrombie & Kent Opening Night subscriptions packages are available. Opening Night subscription tickets can be exchanged; however any price difference is non-refundable. Additional tickets are not available for Opening Nights.
Performance Alterations and Cancellations
MTC reserves the right to add, withdraw or substitute artists. It is our philosophy that performances should proceed where practicable and in the event of last minute substitutions artists may read from the script on stage.
MTC reserves the right to vary ticket prices, and/or vary advertised programmes, seating arrangements and audience capacity.
In the case of a cancelled performance ticket holders may exchange into another performance of the same production, subject to availability, or into another mainstage MTC performance of the current season by returning their tickets to the place of purchase. If a refund is required tickets must be returned to the place of purchase within 20 days of the cancelled performance.
MTC reserves the right to record, broadcast, telecast or webcast any event.
Tickets for performances and events are valid only when purchased from an agent authorised by MTC to sell or distribute tickets. Tickets may not, without MTC prior written consent, be on-sold or offered for sale at a premium, offered as a prize or inducement, packaged or otherwise used for advertising, promotional or other commercial purposes. MTC reserves the right to cancel any ticket sold or offered for sale or otherwise provided or distributed in breach of this condition, without refund to the consumer.
