Each year we are able to offer a limited number of placements for backstage secondments in the areas of Stage Management, Lighting, Sound, Wardrobe and as Directors Assistants. Priority is given to applicants that have formalised training and experience in these fields.
A secondment is an unpaid placement within the Company for a student who is studying at a tertiary institution and needs to gain experience in their chosen field of study. It can be a placement anywhere from a week to 6 weeks depending on the department the student is attached to. These placements are not available for people wanting to gain general experience in the industry outside of a tertiary education.
Secondments are generally organised through professional training institutions. Approach your course coordinator, and ask them to contact our Production Administrator, Alyson Brown at a.brown@mtc.com.au
Melbourne Theatre Company does not currently offer apprenticeships in any areas.
Secondary school students looking for opportunities to learn more about careers in theatre may be interested in our Careers Week program.
