As we prepare to reveal Season 2019 next month, we look back at the record-breaking year so far.

In exciting news, for Season 2018 we have reached a new record of Subscribers, making MTC the most subscribed theatre company in Australia for the second year running. We’re especially delighted to see so many new people in our audiences with multiple sold-out performances.

MTC productions have been in high-demand with season extensions for both The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and An Ideal Husband, which has just extended again and will now close on Saturday 25 August.

In June, we were thrilled to receive three Helpmann Awards for The Children including the coveted awards of Best Production and Best Director for MTC Associate Director Sarah Goodes. Congratulations to everyone involved with this Sydney Theatre Company co-production!

It’s also been a year of twists and turns. For forty performances we turned the world upside in Wild, while Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Gloria saw an unforgettable plot twist at interval.

We’ve been busy with our artist development and education programs this year.

MTC is again working in partnership with Distance Education Centre Victoria to run a virtual Drama program for students throughout the state; and the Company’s Women in Theatre Program is supporting another twelve women in their career development this year.

Ten more writers were recently announced as commissions and residents as part of MTC’s $4.6 million NEXT STAGE Writers’ Program and nine new Indigenous Scholarship Program participants from around the country were welcomed to MTC in June.

In the coming weeks we will open our Australian premiere production of A Doll’s House, Part 2 and the world premiere NEON NEXT commission, Working with Children.
