Told through the eyes of nine children drawn from diverse local and ethnic multicultural backgrounds, Kids delves into pressing issues facing Australian society.
Kids takes inspiration from the classic Latin American play Juegos a la hora de la siesta (Games During Nap Time), by Polish-born Argentinian playwright Roma Mahieu – a critical, subversive and highly political commentary on the Argentinian dictatorship. By turning the focus to Australia, Kids tackles ideas of identity, empathy and migration, exploring Australia’s attitudes to immigration, and the ways in which refugees may contribute to and enrich a country’s culture.
A future staged version of this work will be directed by Ivan Rojas. This reading is presented by Jimmy Flinders Productions.
