With 2019 coming to a close and the theatrical delights of Season 2020 fast-approaching, we welcome a range of new cast members to the line-up in the new year.
Just announced today is Stephen Curry, known for his work in iconic Australian films The Castle and The Cup, as well as TV shows such as Mr Black, Time of Our Lives and Netflix’s Pine Gap. Stephen is returning to MTC for the first time in over 15 years, for a theatrical masterwork: Sam Shepard’s True West. He stars opposite Josh McConville in this explosive, darkly comic tale of sibling rivalry, directed by Sarah Goodes.
This month, we welcome the Torch the Place team to MTC HQ as they begin rehearsals for Benjamin Law’s playwriting debut. Joining the family are Max Brown (Glitch, The Gloaming) and Charles Wu (Doctor Doctor), who take to the stage alongside Fiona Choi, Michelle Lim Davidson and Diana Lin.
As we head further into 2020, we’re excited to announce some of the new cast members who have joined us since the Season 2020 launch in September.
Completing the cast of the Australian classic Emerald City, Megan Hind (Secret Bridesmaids’ Business, Cleverman) joins Marg Downey, Nadine Garner, Jason Klarwein, Rhys Muldoon and Ray Chong Nee for this new production celebrating 50 years of David Williamson’s plays on our stages.
SLAP. BANG. KISS.
Tahlee Fereday (Astroman), Artemis Ioannides (Wentworth) and Conor Leach (Sequin in a Blue Room) have been cast in Dan Giovannoni’s NEXT STAGE Original SLAP. BANG. KISS. as part of MTC’s Families and Education season.
Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes
Following her performance in The Violent Outburst That Drew Me To You this year, Izabella Yena stars alongside Dan Spielman in the Australian premiere of award-winning Canadian writer Hannah Moscovitch’s Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes. Izabella Yena will also appear in our Season 2020 opener, Home, I’m Darling.
The Heartbreak Choir
Returning to MTC after The House of Bernarda Alba, Emily Milledge joins the chorus in Aidan Fennessy’s NEXT STAGE Original The Heartbreak Choir, together with William McInnes, Genevieve Morris, Ruva Ngwenya and Louise Siversen.
As You Like It
Alec Steedman teams up with director Simon Phillips for another Shakespearean classic, As You Like It. He takes to the stage with Twelfth Night co-star Christie Whelan Browne, and will help bring the music of Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall to life for this glittery new production.
