MTC Chair Terry Moran AC announced today that Jane Hansen, director of the Little Group and MTC Board member, has been appointed the inaugural Chair of the MTC Foundation.
Established to assist the Company in attracting major philanthropic support, the MTC Foundation supports the MTC Board and will have up to 12 trustees including at least two Board members. Jane Hansen will lead the Foundation whose trustees to date are Terry Bracks, Fiona Griffiths, Janette Kendall, Tiffany Lucas, Virginia Lovett and Leigh O’Neill.
MTC Chair Terry Moran said, ‘Jane has been a valued member of our Board since joining earlier this year and I am delighted that she has now accepted the offer to Chair the MTC Foundation. As government support is unlikely to increase and our reliance on the box office grows, it is more important than ever that we work hard to attract income from donors and benefactors to ensure the sustainability of MTC. The Foundation was set up for that very purpose and it will benefit immensely from Jane’s expertise, experience and leadership.’
MTC Foundation Chair Jane Hansen said ‘Without philanthropic support, many of MTC’s programs, initiatives and education activities would simply not exist. It is thanks to the vision and generosity of donors that we are able to achieve all that we do to continue transforming lives through theatre. The activities, accountability and transparency of the Foundation will help strengthen the mutually rewarding relationships between MTC and its donors, and provide donors with the security and certainty they need to help make a significant difference to arts and culture in Australia. I am thrilled to be chairing the Foundation and look forward to working with my fellow Foundation trustees to steer it towards a thriving future.’
Jane Hansen is a Company Director with more than 20 years investment banking and management experience in London, New York and Australia. Currently Chairman of the Little Foundation and all associated philanthropic initiatives, Jane was formerly a mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance specialist at Macquarie Bank and First Boston/Credit Suisse. Jane joined the MTC Board in February 2015 and also sits on the Melbourne University Humanities Foundation, while previously on the Boards of the MCG Trust, the State Sport Centres Trust, the Federal body of Athletics Australia and most recently, the Foundation of the State Library of Victoria. Jane Hansen holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Monash University, a Masters Degree in Finance and Business Administration from Columbia University in New York, and is currently undertaking an Arts Degree majoring in History at Melbourne University.
The MTC Foundation was set up in 2014 and its purpose to build an endowment fund that will provide an ongoing secure revenue stream for the Company; and to provide a mechanism to receive, consolidate and distribute all donations to MTC across four key areas of the business – Innovation, Community, Education and Southbank Theatre. The Foundation will ensure that all donations are used for the purposes agreed with the donor.
