In light of the current COVID-19 situation and in the interest of the health and safety of our audiences, artists and the broader community, Melbourne Theatre Company has announced cancellations impacting nine Season 2020 productions.
This heartbreaking but essential decision means that our productions of Berlin, Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes, SLAP. BANG. KISS., The Heartbreak Choir, Fun Home,True West and As You Like It will no longer be staged this year as scheduled. This follows previous cancellations of Torch the Place and Emerald City.
MTC has two further productions scheduled to take place later this year – Girls & Boys and Sunshine Super Girl. A decision about these shows will be made in the coming months pending government restrictions and public health guidelines.
It is devastating to cancel more than half this year’s season. For our sector, the velocity and enormity of this crisis is unparalleled.
