ABOUT THE SHOW

Following a sold out run at London's National Theatre in 2018, Laura Wade’s piercingly funny Olivier Award-winning play about one woman’s quest to be the ideal 1950s housewife makes its Australian Premiere at MTC. With plenty to say about our penchant for nostalgia and society’s relentless pursuit of perfection, Home, I’m Darling offers a dreamy mix of exquisite 1950s style and sharp social observation from start to finish.

Every couple needs a little fantasy to keep their marriage sparkling, and Judy is always looking for little ways to brighten her husband Johnny’s day. Like cocktails, dancing, warm slippers… all the usual jazz. But is their perfect 50s life a perfect lie?

Featuring a stellar cast including Peter Paltos (Gloria), Nikki Shiels (True Minds), Toby Truslove (The Speechmaker), Jane Turner (Kath & Kim), Izabella Yena (Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears) and Susie Youssef (No Activity), directed by MTC’s award-winning Associate Artistic Director, Sarah Goodes (CosÌ).

To help support communities and animals affected by bushfires we will be donating all proceeds from our programme sales during the season of Home, I’m Darling and collecting cash donations at Southbank Theatre. All money raised will be distributed equally between the Victorian Bushfire Appeal and Wildlife Victoria. Money can also be donated directly to these charities via their websites.

ANZ FORUM NIGHTS

MTC hosts post-show ANZ Forum Nights for most productions, giving people the chance to hear first-hand from members of the cast and creative team of each show.

The ANZ Forum Nights for Home, I'm Darling will occur following the performances on 27 January and 3 February.

Izabella Yena's previous theatre credits include Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes, Home, I'm Darling, an Olivier Award-winning comedy directed by Sarah Goodes, The Violent Outburst That Drew Me To You (2019 Education Program), SLAP. BANG. KISS. creative development, The House of Bernarda Alba creative development (Melbourne Theatre Company); Lifetime Guarantee, Fierce (Theatreworks); a Helpmann-Award winning national tour of Hello, Goodbye & Happy Birthday (Performing Lines); Atomic creative development (Malthouse Theatre); 2.20am (Anvil Production). In her breakout feature film role, Izabella played Shirin Abbas in the 2020 feature Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears (Every Cloud Productions/Roadshow Films), directed by Tony Tilse. Izabella is a two-time Green Room Award nominee for her lead roles in Melbourne Theatre Company's production of Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes and the one-woman show Kerosene directed by Benjamin Nichol and Izabella for Theatreworks, for which she received glowing reviews.
