Join us at the 2026 Drama Victoria conference.
Join acclaimed Set & Costume Designer Christina Smith (West Gate) for an exploration of her approach to creating innovative set designs for theatre. Participants will work with Christina to create a sketch model and spatially express an idea in response to a script. You’ll explore how this tool can be applied in the classroom to encourage imagination, creative risk-taking and abstract thinking. This workshop is complemented by a suite of free learning resources available in the Melbourne Theatre Company Education Hub.
Christina Smith’s work at Melbourne Theatre Company includes set and costume designer on West Gate, Mother Play, Seventeen, The Heartbreak Choir, Berlin, A View from the Bridge and many more. Other companies she has designed for include Sydney Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre, Black Swan, Malthouse Theatre and Belvoir. She is a lecturer in Design for Live Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts.
This PL addresses the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers 2.1, 3.3, 6.2 and 7.4.
