'We are the Deadly Creatives, a group of young theatre makers. We are the future of blak theatre. We collaborate, share, learn, and yarn with one another. We support each other and tell stories together.' – Deadly Creatives, 2025

A one-of-a-kind creative learning initiative for young First Nations people. This program is made possible by partnerships with the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development at Victorian College of the Arts and YIRRAMBOI.

2025 PROGRAM

Deadly Creatives is a free creative learning program for young First Nations people interested in the arts. The program's alumni, teaching artists and new participants all work together to explore ways of telling stories for the stage. Participants in the program also get to see shows and meet with industry professionals to spark their own creative ideas and connections to the wider industry.

For YIRRAMBOI 2025, the Deadly Creatives presented two new works in development at Southbank Theatre. The 2025 participants wrote, designed and performed in both plays for four performances during the festival, showing their skills and growth as theatre makers. We’re currently reflecting on Deadly Creatives and how we can continue to improve the program. Applications for 2025 are currently closed, but we encourage you to submit an expression of interest if you think Deadly Creatives sounds like a program for you. Our Learning Programs Policies aim to keep young people safe when visiting Melbourne Theatre Company. These policies apply to all people at Melbourne Theatre Company, including staff, artists and students. To access our Learning Programs Policies, click here.
