Melbourne Theatre Company’s hit production on tour to Regional Victoria and Tasmania

Melbourne Theatre Company’s production of Peddling begins a three-week tour on Tuesday 10 May, visiting five regional Victorian performing arts centres and Launceston College in Tasmania following its critically acclaimed season at Southbank Theatre.

A key aspect of the MTC’s Sharing the Light initiative, the tour allows more schools, students and audiences in regional areas to engage with Victoria’s state theatre company and access its award-winning productions, Education Program and enrichment workshops.

During the tour Peddling will play at the Mildura Arts Centre; Ulumbarra Theatre, Bendigo; Esso BHP Billiton Wellington Centre, Sale; Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre; Geelong Performing Arts Centre; and Launceston College in Tasmania.

Melbourne Theatre Company Executive Director Virginia Lovett said, ‘In all our pursuits at MTC, and in particular through our Education Program and Sharing the Light initiative, we are working to ensure there is greater access for young people to engage and participate in the arts and creative industries.

‘This tour will deepen relationships established during our past two regional tours and build new ones in areas of the state we’ve not been to before. It is also wonderful to be expanding our reach beyond state borders with our second visit to Launceston College in Tasmania,’ Ms Lovett said.

Directed by Susie Dee and starring Darcy Brown accompanied by Bec Matthews on percussion, Peddling is a captivating story about street kids failed by the system who are trying to find their way in the world. Written by Harry Potter film star Harry Melling, Peddling is currently enjoying a successful Australian premiere season in Melbourne, attracting four- and five-star reviews when it opened in April.

Peddling is MTC’s 2016 Education Production made possible by MTC Donors and is on the VCE Drama Playlist. MTC Education Productions are staged especially for secondary school students and are not only valuable experiences for drama students but also those studying English, literature, music and a range of humanities subjects. The Education Production is a core component of MTC’s Education Program which provides thousands of students with access to world-class productions, learning opportunities, resources, and enrichment programs every year.

The regional tour is part of MTC’s Sharing the Light initiative which is generously supported by the Crown Resorts Foundation and Packer Family Foundation.

Other aspects of the Sharing the Light initiative include $5 tickets to MTC mainstage productions for students at eligible schools, $5 tickets to MTC’s annual Family Production and MTC’s Indigenous Scholarships.
