Golden Shield in rehearsal

Across a five-week rehearsal period at MTC HQ, the Golden Shield team prepared to bring this world premiere to the stage.

Over five weeks in July and August 2019, the Golden Shield team rehearsed the world premiere production at MTC HQ. Rehearsals typically run from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday rehearsals too. A mock-up of the set is built in the rehearsal room while the actual set is being manufactured in the workshop next door.

In addition to the cast, rehearsals include Creative team members such as the Director, Set & Costume Designers, Composer & Sound Designer, Lighting Designer, Voice & Dialect Coach, and Stage Management team. This production also had a team of associates, assistants and secondments working across various production roles, as well as a Language & Translation Consultant.

Learn more about Golden Shield, and see the cast rehearsing, in this video featuring interviews with Brett Sheehy (MTC Artistic Director), Anchuli Felicia King (Playwright), and Sarah Goodes (Director).

Golden Shield is an MTC NEXT STAGE original. MTC’s NEXT STAGE Writers’ Program is an important investment in Australian writers and new Australian writing. Golden Shield by Anchuli Felicia King is the first commission to take to the stage, made possible through MTC's Playwrights Giving Circle Donors, The Ian Potter Foundation, Naomi Milgrom Foundation, The Myer Foundation, Malcolm Robertson Foundation and The University of Melbourne.
