Each year since 2010, a group of Year 11 theatre-lovers have been selected as MTC Ambassadors, embarking on a year-long extension program that offers insight into the world of professional theatre. Each month they attend an MTC production, meet with artists and staff, and share their experiences of theatre with like-minded peers.

Our Ambassadors are valued advocates of MTC in their school, social and online communities. Ambassadors take a leadership role which has two functions; to act as youth representatives within the Company, and to act as advocates for MTC within their school and social communities. Upon completion of the program, MTC Ambassadors are invited to join our Young Grads initiative in order to extend the MTC experience and stay connected to other Ambassadors. Participation is free of charge.

What does the program entail?

Each meeting starts with a talk from a theatre professional, such as an actor, director, writer, designer or MTC staff member. During meetings there will also be a facilitated group discussion about the last production attended, and a light dinner will be served. After the meeting, Ambassadors walk together to Southbank Theatre or Arts Centre Melbourne to see a performance. To read about the 2017 MTC Ambassadors’ unforgettable year of theatre, click here.

When does the program run?

Ambassadors meet roughly once a month at MTC HQ after school.

Who is eligible?

Students in Year 11 are eligible for nomination by the Head of Drama or Performing Arts or another relevant teacher. Schools may only nominate one student each year.

How do I apply?

Students are nominated by their teachers, and each school may nominate only one student. We strongly encourage teachers to nominate students who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those with disabilities.

Nominations for the 2019 MTC Ambassadors program are now closed.

Nominations for the 2020 program will open here in January 2020.
