Each September we welcome young people from across Victoria for our Youth Scholarship Course, a week of intensive drama workshops for students who would not otherwise have access to an extra-curricular drama program due to economic, geographic or personal barriers. In this video you can hear from some of the students and teachers involved in the program – as you can see, the course has a profound effect on all the participants. We feel privileged to be able to share the world of theatre with these students, and help them develop not only their acting skills, but their broader communication and teamwork skills. It’s a wonderful reminder of the power of the arts to transform a person’s outlook on life, build confidence and create lasting friendships.
If you’d like to learn more about the program you can email education@mtc.com.au. Programs such as this rely on community support, so if you’d like to help us bring theatre to young people and make a difference in their lives, you can make a donation or contact our Fundraising and Events Manager Mandy Jones on 03 8688 0958 or m.jones@mtc.com.au.
Nominations for the 2014 Youth Scholarship Course will open next year. However, if you are studying VCE Drama or Theatre Studies next year, applications our Summer School are now open.
