We have some exciting news! MTC’s production of David Williamson’s Rupert will travel to Washington D.C. in March 2014.
MTC has been invited to present the show as part of World Stages: International Theater Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. We will be the only Australian theatre company participating in the Festival.
Beginning rehearsals yesterday under the direction of Griffin Theatre Company’s Artistic Director Lee Lewis, Rupert will make its world premiere in Melbourne next month. Described as a ‘bio play on adrenaline’, Rupert sees Australia’s best-known playwright use the greatest media scandal of modern times as the launchpad for a maverick theatrical presentation.
Two actors, Guy Edmonds and Sean O’Shea, will be stepping into the role of Rupert Murdoch. Joining Guy and Sean is a talented ensemble including Marg Downey, Daniela Farinacci, Simon Gleeson, Bert LaBonté, HaiHa Le and Scott Sheridan, who will play up to 20 roles each.
Melbourne audiences will be the first in the world to see Rupert before it heads overseas, with a premiere season at Arts Centre Melbourne, Playhouse from 24 August to 28 September.
