In July this year, the world’s first IVF baby will turn 37. In June, Australia’s first IVF baby will turn 35. More than three decades since their birth, the amazing technology that brought them into the world has been refined and expanded, and it is now believed that over 5 million people around the world owe their lives to the work of people like Patrick Steptoe and Robert Edwards in the UK, and Alan Trounson and Carl Wood in Australia.
To celebrate this incredible achievement, and in preparation for the World Premiere of Kylie Trounson’s play The Waiting Room, we’ve created an interactive timeline marking the key milestones for IVF. To move through the timeline, simply hover over the window below. Forward and back arrows on the right and left allow you to navigate through the milestones chronologically, or you can click and drag the timeline to navigate to a period that interests you. To zoom in and out, use the + and – buttons on the lower left.
The Waiting Room by Kylie Trounson is playing at Arts Centre Melbourne, Fairfax Studio from 15 May to 27 June.
