Andrew Bailey has designed sets for three of the five 2012 Studio Season productions. Post-show, theatre staff consistently mentioned that people hung around afterwards to get a closer look at the intricate designs and all the hidden surprises. For “On the Production of Monsters”: Bailey created a pop-up set which featured desks, chairs, beanbags, treadmills and, of course, the famous toaster cannon. Bailey’s set for “The Golden Dragon”: took the shape of a wooden box which opened up to not only represent a restaurant but also multiple apartments and outdoor settings. Finally, “Happy Ending”: draws on the idea of a shopping centre massage clinic, but transforms into living rooms, shops and cafes. In anticipation of his set design for Happy Ending we’ve put together a collection of Andrew Bailey’s sets from this year.
