We are delighted that our shows, artists and creatives have been recognised with 16 nominations for the 2015 Helpmann Awards.
MTC received four nominations for What Rhymes with Cars and Girls and three for Marlin (co-produced with Arena Theatre Company), with both productions nominated for Best New Australian Work.
What Rhymes with Cars and Girls also earned nominations in the Best Original Score, Best Musical Direction and Best Direction categories, and Marlin received additional nominations for Best Lighting Design and Best Scenic Design, recognising the brilliant work by members of its creative team.
For her performance as Nell in MTC’s production of Endgame, Julie Forsyth has been nominated for Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Play.
We are thrilled that our first partnership with the Gordon Frost Organisation not only led to such a stunning Australian premiere production of Once, but that it has been recognised so widely at the Helpmann Awards, gaining eight nominations across seven categories including Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.
Artistic Director Brett Sheehy AO said, ‘It is an honour to see MTC productions, artists and creatives sit amongst such esteemed company in the nominations, and particularly rewarding that two of our new Australian productions have been nominated across multiple categories.’
‘The calibre of nominations are not only credit to the incredible work created by our team but testament to the high quality work Australian arts companies produce year in, year out,’ Brett said.
