Chair of Melbourne Theatre Company Terry Moran AC today announced three new members joining the Melbourne Theatre Company Board.
Larry Kamener, Dr Sharmistha Law and Susan Oliver will begin their tenures with the Company immediately, expanding the Board to 15 directors.
Terry Moran said ‘With these new appointments we welcome three highly accomplished individuals to our board, each bringing a wealth of expertise and business acumen to Melbourne Theatre Company.
‘As we continue to carve out a strong, sustainable future for Victoria’s State theatre company and embark on a number of new strategic initiatives, their collective knowledge and perspective in areas of policy, governance and innovation, along with their passion for the arts, will be a great asset to MTC.’
Melbourne Theatre Company is the State theatre company of Victoria and in 2016 generated $28.3 million total revenue. The Company has over 20,000 subscribers and reaches an annual paid attendance of over 220,000. In 2016, MTC brought in $14.5 million at the box office.
Larry Kamener is a Senior Partner in the Melbourne office of The Boston Consulting Group. He is the founder and former leader of BCG’s global Public Sector Practice; and the founder and current chair of BCG’s Centre for Public Impact. He has worked extensively across education, justice, public health, welfare and defence sectors. Prior to joining BCG he worked as an economist in the Australian and Victorian Government Treasury Departments. He is the Chair of Teach for Australia and the Strategic Advisory Council for the Bastow Institute of School Leadership.
Dr Sharmistha Law holds a BS in Computer Science, MS in Business Administration and a PhD in Management. At the University of Toronto Sharmistha taught Marketing and Advertising and served as an Associate Professor, Associate Chair of Management, Scarborough, and as the Principal’s Advisor on Diversity and Outreach. Her research has been published in top-tier academic journals such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Psychology and Marketing. Moving to London in 2008, she served on the Board of a Hindu Temple, worked with Human Rights Watch, London and founded a property development business.
Susan Oliver is an entrepreneur, company director and deeply committed to Australia’s innovation agenda. Susan is founding chairman of Scale Investors. She is an experienced listed company director of more than 20 years with strong commercial and technical skills. She is a non-executive director of CNPR, on the board of Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and an independent member of the Investment Committee for Industry Funds Management. Susan co-founded The Big Issue in Australia, headed the Australian Commission for the Future and has contributed significantly to the innovation, IT and arts policy agendas in Australia over a period of 30 years. She was a British Council Scholar, was awarded a Centenary medal for service to business and in 2013 was named as one of the 100 Women of Influence by Westpac and AFR.
Mr Kamener, Dr Law and Ms Oliver will sit on the Board alongside Chair Terry Moran AC and Board Members Tony Burgess, Professor Barry Conyngham AM, Professor Glyn Davis AC, Patricia Faulkner, Jonathan Feder, Jane Hansen, Janette Kendall, Ian Marshman, Martyn Myer AO, Brett Sheehy AO and Virginia Lovett.
