NEXT STAGE Original Productions

Championing new works and voices for the stage, we're excited to share these NEXT STAGE Original productions making their debut.

  • Golden Shield

The very first NEXT STAGE comission to be produced for the stage is a stunning new legal drama from a trail-blazer of contemporary theatre, Anchuli Felicia King.

  • Torch the Place

Benjamin Law makes his playwriting debut with Torch the Place, a poignant modern comedy about finding clarity in the clutter of life.

  • Berlin

In this spine-tingling romantic thriller, Joanna Murray-Smith creates a world of passion and intrigue, which asks what it really means to forgive the past.

  • SLAP. BANG. KISS.

Dan Giovannoni explores themes of activism, community and hope in SLAP. BANG. KISS., a rollercoaster contemporary performance that unravels what it means to ‘go viral’ and asks, can young people really change the world?

  • The Heartbreak Choir

Aidan Fennessy’s follow-up to one of our most beloved plays of 2018, The Architect, is an endearing new commission for MTC, which celebrates the power of comedy and reminds us how music can transcend adversity to give us hope for the future.

Melbourne Theatre Company acknowledges the Yalukit Willam Peoples of the Boon Wurrung, the First Peoples of Country on which Southbank Theatre and MTC HQ stand. We pay our respects to all of Melbourne’s First Peoples, to their ancestors and Elders, and to our shared future.
