Melbourne Theatre Company is saddened that much respected and award-winning architect, set and costume designer Peter Corrigan has passed away.
Peter Corrigan first worked as a set and costume designer at Melbourne Theatre Company for City Sugar in 1976.
He then went on to complete designs for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (1980), Hamlet (1980), The Floating World (1982), The Perfectionist (1982), Tenor on Tour (1983), Other Places (1985) and Reservoir by Night (1985).
‘Peter Corrigan made an incredible contribution to our industry and will be sorely missed by the architectural and theatre communities,’ MTC Executive Director Virginia Lovett said. ‘Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.’
Working both overseas and in Australia, Peter Corrigan was an RMIT Architecture Professor and Royal Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal winning architect. He was responsible for a number of AIA-awarded projects including RMIT Building 8 and Athan House. He designed sets and costumes for productions in most Australian capital cities for Hoopla Productions, Opera Australia, the Australian Performing Group, Melbourne Theatre Company, Last Laugh Theatre Restaurant, Playbox Theatre, Anthill, Going Through Stages, Nightshift, VSO, SATC, Queensland Lyric, Gligil Theatre Company (Theatre of Principle), Belvoir Street Theatre, STC and The Bell Shakespeare Company.
