MTC’s The Weir opens in Hobart

Following a critically acclaimed season in Melbourne, MTC’s The Weir opens tonight at the Theatre Royal in Hobart, marking the first time a Melbourne Theatre Company show has been performed at the historic venue in over a decade.

After mesmerising audiences in the Fairfax Studio at Arts Centre Melbourne, much loved actors Nadine Garner, Greg Stone, Ian Meadows, Robert Menzies and Peter Kowitz will captivate Tasmanian audiences with the hauntingly beautiful Irish play until Saturday 3 October.

MTC Artistic Director Brett Sheehy said, ‘I’m delighted that the extraordinarily talented cast and crew of The Weir, under the direction of MTC’s Associate Artistic Director Sam Strong, have the opportunity to share Conor McPherson’s beautifully crafted play with audiences across the Bass Strait.

‘After a sell-out season in Melbourne, it’s great to see this wonderful play full of masterful storytelling mark a new era of MTC’s relationship with the Theatre Royal and Tasmanian audiences,’ Mr Sheehy said.

The Weir’s transfer to Hobart is the third MTC production to travel interstate and reach audiences beyond Victoria this year, following Jumpy and Death and the Maiden which both had seasons at Sydney Theatre Company.
