The Arts Centre

Located at 100 St Kilda Road on the south bank of the Yarra, the Arts Centre with its tall golden spire is a distinctive landmark. MTC has been a major tenant at the Arts Centre since it opened with our production of Medea in 1984.

With the opening of the MTC Theatre on Southbank Boulevard in 2009, MTC will be presenting fewer productions at the Arts Centre, but it will still remain a major centre for the Company’s activities. Two or three large scale productions will appear each season in the 880-seat Playhouse, while the Fairfax Studio will remain the home for smaller-scale works.

The Arts Centre is ideally set up for a night out. Within its complex you can have a pre- or post-show meal or drink at Café Vic, the Curve Bar, the Mez Bar and EQ Cafébar. It is also handy for the restaurants and bars along the Yarra at Southgate. The George Adams Gallery and the St Kilda Road Foyer Gallery have exhibitions throughout the year for you to peruse before and after the show. Underneath the Arts Centre there is secure off street car parking (enter via Sturt Street).
