Taking the nation’s theatres by storm, Helpmann Award-winning director Simon Stone makes his long-awaited MTC debut with a unique adaptation of one of Chekhov’s most magical and tender plays.
Spoilt and sentimental, Ranevskaya returns to her large estate seeking refuge from a failed love affair and impending bankruptcy. But the estate has long ceased making money and neither she nor her feckless brother, Gayev, are willing to face the facts. Fortunately, her former labourer Lopakhin, now a successful property developer, has a plan. Will she yield to the path of modernity, or is the pull of the past too strong?
Starring Pamela Rabe, this boldly original Australian interpretation of the Chekhov classic is not to be missed.
