Perfectly Imperfect

By Fusion Theatre Inc./Wheel Women
  • Presented by Fusion Theatre Inc./Wheel Women

Never before in theatre has personal anguish like this been confronted with such head-on honesty.

A strong, healthy teenager, Charlie is no longer a boy and not yet a man. His parents and three women friends, his 'wheely aunts' gather to celebrate his fifteenth birthday, an  extraordinary mile stone in the ‘miracle’ boy’s life. Charlie is extraordinary, because Kate his mother has cerebral palsy, uses a wheel chair and an electronic communicator. Dave, his father, is a regular guy in love with a woman with a disability.

Kate and Dave defied medical and conventional wisdom to have Charlie. But when one of their friends makes a shocking announcement at his birthday, it releases a torrent of accusation, recrimination and repressed memories amongst the friends concerning their various disabilities. As birthday celebration descends into outright hostility and revelations of personal tragedy, Perfectly Imperfect traverses the moral and ethical concerns we all have about what is normal.

Perfectly Imperfect is a spellbinding excursion into the nature of human rights, using drama and dance to expose the double standards in social perceptions of disability.
