To join us for our inaugural Sumner Sundowner, simply buy a ticket to the matinee performance of Dead Man's Cell Phone on Sunday 25 July at 4pm.
THE SHOW
Dead Man’s Cell Phone, featuring Lisa McCune, is the latest surrealist adventure from the off-kilter world of playwright Sarah Ruhl. When the man next to her in a café fails to answer his mobile phone, Jean discovers that he is seriously incommunicado. Feeling some responsibility for the stranger and wanting to offer some comfort for the dead man’s family, what can she do but keep answering the phone? But responsibilities taken up lightly can become burdens in time. Dancing out of the light-footed imagination of Sarah Ruhl, Dead Man’s Cell Phone traces one woman’s accidental quest to make a few people just feel a little bit better about themselves.
POST-SHOW
After the show the cast will take the Crumpler Bean Bag Stage and participate in a lively and informal Q&A hosted by director Peter Evans. It’s a great chance to dig deeper into the whimsical plot line and discover how the actors approached their roles.
Then kick back to the loungey beats of DJ Fiona Scott-Norman (Resident DJ at the famous Spiegeltent) and enjoy wine and cheese tasting courtesy of Wolf Blass wines and Calendar Cheese or grab a complimentary coffee from the Genovese Coffee cart. Downstairs Script Bistro will be offering a Super Sunday dinner special for those who want to complete their weekend in style.
