Legendary Padmashri Madhavi Mudgal will present her life time achievements to Odissi, an Indian classical dance form that traces its antiquity to early sculptures in Odisha dating back to the 2nd century BCE. Arpan will showcase Madhavi’s rare choreographies that are renowned for their visual aesthetic and superior lyricism. This is a rare performance by this living legend of Odissi in Australia that is not to be missed.
Alastair Macaulay wrote, ‘A dancer to be compared with Margot Fonteyn…The proportions and coordination of her dancing were transporting. Its movement emanated from an inner calm, passing through a beautifully lively torso to reveal each dance with decisive architecture in time and space, before returning, often, to a still centre.’
