Synopsis

World Premiere

From award-winning actor and writer Brendan Cowell comes a brilliantly perceptive take on everything true Australians hold dear: mateship, family, footy and sex scandals.

What happens on the footy trip doesn’t always stay on the footy trip. When all hell breaks loose back home after things turn ugly in Thailand, only three people know the whole story. There’s Liam, an NRL workhorse who’s devoted to his code and his teammates; his older brother Dean, a top pick for the AFL Brownlow Medal who tries to clean up Liam’s mess but mostly makes it worse; and Amber, a teenage athlete who rests uneasily on the edge of complicity and victimhood.

The Sublime cuts through the media-managed world of professional football to expose human foibles that exist way beyond the sporting field. Director Sam Strong combines forces with actors Josh McConville, Ben O’Toole and Anna Samson to create a fiery production for lovers of any code, and for those who’ve never set foot inside a stadium.
