Welcome to Season 2012

It’s only the first week of the new year but we’re already busy as bees. Our first production for the year, the Australian classic Summer of the Seventeenth Doll begins next week; the Tribes cast have arrived at MTC HQ and started rehearsals; we’re about to start pre-production on The Seed; and we’re preparing to welcome 26 VCE Drama and Theatre Studies students to the building for our Summer School program. It’s all happening!

Our first production – Summer of the Seventeenth Doll

MTC and The Doll have a long history together – since we premiered the play in 1955, we have presented it once in almost every decade. Naturally, we’re thrilled to bring it home again. You can watch and listen to how it all began – and learn about its return in 2012 – in the following media items.

Hear playwright Ray Lawler and 1955 director John Sumner reminisce about the original production on ABC Radio National.

Have you seen or read Summer of the Seventeenth Doll before? We’d love you to share your memories and experiences in the comments below.

An exciting opportunity for artists – work inside the MTC Theatre

In the coming months, we’ll be revealing our 2012 Education and Lawler Studio Seasons, which we’re very excited about – so stay tuned for more information about them soon. However we can reveal that we’ve left just enough space in our Lawler Studio during the year to host three residencies for artists or artistic teams. Artists will have access to the Lawler Studio for one of three two-week periods – free of charge – enabling them to script, design, plot and rehearse new works. They will also have the opportunity to meet with members of MTC’s management and artistic teams.

We look forward to sharing our 2012 Season with you. Which production are you most looking forward to?
